The sentiment in the world right now is one of fear and anxiety. But what if I told you this could be the ultimate time for you to make progress toward your health, fitness, and sport performance goals?
Here are 3 things you can do RIGHT NOW to move yourself forward, while the rest of the world stands still.
(1) PLAN
It’s unbelievable to me how many people walk into the gym with no plan or agenda of what they are to do. Thats like going to the grocery store to look at every item before returning home to realize your shelves were full of some things and empty of others.
In a world that is generally starving for time, this is really a great opportunity to map out your training agenda over the next months or year. What is it that you really want to achieve in your body or sport? What are your current strengths/ weaknesses? What cycles of training will get you there? Do you have enough variation? overload? specificity?
If you don’t know what I am talking about right now or you don’t understand macro, meso, and micro layers of technical planning then get a professional to help you. It’s an investment that will put you directly on the pathway to success and literally save you years of worth of effective time over the long term.
(2) Work on Correctives
Look, I like watching good looking people exercise on youtube as much as the next person, and I generally believe all movement is worthwhile.
But what is better? To do a mismash of random exercises with little or no purpose/ specificity, or to work directly on the things which you need to improve.
Correctives are often very simple exercises, requiring little or no space, which help improve movement patterns, range of motion, or general functional strength. If you get out of the next few weeks/ months completely injury free and with improved movement patterns, you be 10x better than you would doing random movements or worse nothing at all.
(3) Keep Moving
At the route of all this is the very simple truth that “exercise IS medicine.” It doesn’t matter if you are missing your regular gym routine, or if you are on the most epic self-isolation agenda of all time, there is always something to be worked on, there is always potential for growth, and there is always ways to move yourself forward. You just have to be creative.
Keep moving. Experiment with different movement mechanics and techniques. Walk some stairs. Do some yoga. Just keep moving!
Nothing will keep our immune systems and our minds stronger than some regular, purposeful exercise.
