ONE IDEA

No one beats the laws of thermodynamics.

THE WHY

Because they are the LAWS of thermodynamics not the suggestions.

MY THOUGHTS/ PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS

People often wonder why they can’t lose weight. They start internalizing that there is something wrong with them or that they have an organ malfunction.

The facts are as follows:

Here’s two good examples.

  1. The Twinkie Diet – A nutrition professor from Kansas State University eats a Twinkie and a variety of sugary cereals every 3 hours for 10 weeks, while maintaining a net calorie deficit. He loses 27 pounds and 4 points on the BMI.
  2. The Cancer Patient – In my Precision Nutrition education we had a case study on a cancer patient who was bed ridden as he underwent chemotherapy. He couldn’t figure out how it was possible that he was gaining weight on such poor-quality hospital food. They looked into it and turns out being sedentary meant he was expending very little energy, so his energy balance had swung the other way.

Again, no one beats the laws of thermodynamics.

I actually find this basic science quite empowering. Regardless of your goal, if you can figure out energy in vs. energy out you can be the master of your own body composition.
