ONE IDEA
Your training should have one central priority.
THE WHY
If you are working on too many things at once, you will never get the primary adaptation you are looking for.
MY THOUGHTS/ PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS
A lot of people this time of year set these big overarching goals for their new year. I’ll see people in the gym who say they want to get stronger but are doing 15+ repetitions on the leg extension machine. Or people who say they want to increase muscle size who spend half their time on the cycle ergometer. Remember: getting a true physiological adaptation in your body is hard work. You want to increase your odds of success by using the most evidence informed methods of training, and focusing on one thing at a time. So this new year, instead of asking yourself “where do I want to be by the end of the year?” maybe ask “what is the single most important thing I need to accomplish in my training before I can get to the other things?” It doesn’t mean other things can’t be improving at the same time, but I generally believe there should be an overarching focus.
