As a coach, one of the things I am always challenged with is getting the ideas in my head into the bodies of the athletes that I work with.

I find breaking things down into a common language and explaining the value in the eyes of the athlete to be very important.

A very simple movement like walking up-stairs is something that most of us take for granted. That is, until we are in pain and can’t do it anymore. A good step up, while simple in concept, actually involves about a half dozen pretty important elements that we can position, strengthen, and make more efficient. When present, these elements make up a flawless movement, healthy joints, and a healthy body. When not present, we risk frequent microtraumas which have a stress effect on the body in the long run.

The same underlying efficiencies are true when we lunge, run, swim, or play sports. Take care of the small stuff and the big stuff will take care of itself.
